More Tooth Fairy Stuff

I forgot to add this tidbit of information in yesterday's post. I found a SUPER cute tooth fairy craftivity posted on TPT by Angie Neal that would go perfectly with the unit on Teeth. And to add icing to the cake......it's free! Check out this adorable tooth fairy project.
If you are doing a unit of teeth this week, what are some of your ideas and resources?

Teeth, Tooth Fairy, and Cavities, Oh My!

I recently purchased this Teeth Writing Unit from Jodi over at Clutterfree Classroom. I didn't really know exactly what I was going to do with it, but it is too stinkin' cute to resist. I decided we were going to study teeth in February for Dental Health month. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to tie in a little Practical Living with Language Arts. You can click on the link below to purchase your own copy of this adorable packet. She even has a Youtube video of how to use the materials. It's AWESOME!

I created the Teeth Schema sheet and the students recorded their information. Then we compiled out schema and added it our Teeth Schema chart. After that we watched a Brainpop video over teeth and recorded our information on the tree map (each student has their own tree map in addition to the poster.) The schema poster clipart and the tree map was part of Jodi's packet.
During the week, we are going to read fiction and nonfiction books about teeth. This week the students are going to write a narrative about losing a tooth. Next week, we are going to use our new learning to create an article about dental health and taking care of your teeth. The kids are super excited about this unit. :) Thanks to Jodi for inspiring this unit on TEETH!

Play Ball!

Who doesn't love games? Games are one of my favorite teaching tools because you can use them in so many different ways. Sometimes I use games just to review concepts that I have taught throughout the year. Other times I use them more as a formative assessment for a unit to determine areas where I need to go back and reteach. One of my ALL time favorite games is BASEBALL! My kids love it!

Well, this weekend, I decided to share this game with you. I just posted on my TPT and Teacher Notebook store this fabulous game for the LOW, LOW price of $1. The packet includes instructions for how to use baseball and three different game options...all loads of fun! It also includes base labels, scoreboard labels, and play cards to be used with two of the game options. Click on the link below to check out this game! I know you will absolutely LOVE it!

Snow Day

I spend the majority of my day in my pajamas. We ended up with a snow day today, so I get to enjoy a four day weekend! Whoo Hoo! I got to catch up on some TV and worked on some things to post. One of the things that I needed to complete was a University of Missouri basketball unit that a teacher requested. I originally made the unit to root on my favorite basketball team...GO UK WILDCATS! Once I posted this unit, several teachers requested the unit for their favorite basketball teams. Currently I have the following available on my TPT and Teacher Notebook stores:

* University of Kentucky
* Ohio State
* Washington Huskies
* University of Georgia
* University of North Carolina
* University of Kansas

My latest unit... MIZZOU Tigers. To check out this unit, click on the picture below:

If you would like for me to make a unit for your favorite boys Division 1 basketball team, send me an email at nicoleshelby@hotmail.com. I would be happy to make one for your team. It's an AWESOME activity for March Madness.

Also, teachers that use Every Day Counts Calendar Math, I posted monthly sheets to go along with the daily calendar for each month. This is a freebie, but unfortunately, I only have these for 4th grade. If you are a 4th grade teacher, you are in luck. You can snag this freebie at the following link:

Taste the Rainbow!

For the last couple of days, we have been learning how to find the mean, median, mode, and range of a set of data in math class. These are fun concepts to teach, but not always the easiest for the kids to understand. What better way to reinforce a math concept than with candy? Skittles to be exact. I SO wish I could take credit for developing this lesson, but I did not. As I have mentioned before, I am A HUGE fan of the gals over at Lesson Plan SOS. This AWESOME lesson came from their TPT store. It was a great purchase and I would HIGHLY recommend this lesson if teaching mean, median, mode, and range are skills that you are working on with your students. To purchase this lesson yourself, click here. It's totally worth the $1.50. Check us out in action! Look how engaged these kiddos are. They LOVED this lesson!

Penguin Study

Today we began our unit on penguins. The kids were so excited! I had no idea the kids would love studying penguins so much! Today was the introduction to the unit. I had the students tell me their "schema" or prior knowledge of penguins and recorded it on a "brain file" sheet and then made a class poster of our collected schema. (I am a fan of Debbie Miller and her schema activities). The activities below were inspired by the following:

Here are pictures of those items. All this week, the students will be reading nonfiction articles and books about penguins. Facts that they learn will be recorded on a "Can, Have, Are" Tree Map. Below are pictures of some of the resources and articles that we are using. This actual unit and activities can be purchased on my TPT and TN stores.

Penguin Unit from Teacher's Notebook and TPT.

I will post more pictures and info about our penguin unit soon!

WOW! and Hamburger Game Freebie!

Today I am just SO excited! First of all, one of my freebie games available on TPT was featured in the newsletter this week. It doesn't take much to thrill me I guess, but I can't tell you how excited I was when I opened that email this morning and saw my game featured. As exciting as this was, nothing could compare to what happened after that. The Lesson Plans SOS gals know that I am SUCH a fan of their work (I am not at stalker status yet, but that may come soon). I think I have bought EVERYTHING they offer that is grade appropriate for my kiddos. I love those girls! Here is the great part......they actually downloaded this Hamburger Game freebie and left a great review! I am telling you, I feel like a giggly school girl meeting Justin Beiber. LOL! Thank you, Melissa and Nicole for making my day! :)
If you would like to snag this freebie, you can click on the picture below:

Laptop Crisis

Okay, so I have had this blog three days and I have already skipped a day of posting. I am definitely going to have to do better about that. LOL! :) I honestly really do have an excuse. Last week, my school laptop completely crashed because it was infected with a virus. I had to send it to the "tech" people in our district. They have a reputation for completely cleaning off the computers and all files disappear. So I frantically moved all my files to flashdrives and took the computer for repairs. Well, in the meantime, they gave me a "loaner" to use. It has NOTHING but the basics.....Word and Internet. That's about it. So, I can't upload any pictures. It's been over a week....I am about to die! I hope to have my computer back soon...it has everything I need....my cute fonts, photo program, etc.

Please bear with me! I promise to start adding resources and pictures soon!

Enjoy your weekend!

A New Year's Resolution!

One of my New Year's resolutions was to start blogging. I know it's probably kind of a silly thing, but I have learned so much and gained so many valuable ideas from searching other teachers' blogs. With that being said, I decided to join the "blogging world." I am SUPER excited! I wanted to start on January 1st, but I spent several days searching for the perfect blog template. I definitely have to put in a plug for "Dreamlike Magic" which is where I purchased this template. Alicia was GREAT! Not only did she create this adorable template, but she offered great customer service. If you are interested in starting a blog and are looking for that "perfect" template, I definitely recommend checking out Alicia's Etsy site.

I am starting a new unit on penguins with my fourth graders next week. I will post pictures of that as we go. We are actually going to spend a week reading nonfiction articles (gotta meet those core standards) and the following week are going to begin a book unit on Mr. Popper's Penguins. I can't wait! Be looking for pictures of all of our fun activities starting next week.

I do have a classroom website that I keep as well. If you check out the following site, you can see some of the creative activities we have done this school year.
http://mrsshelbysclass.blogspot.com/

Many of the activities you find on this site, can be purchased on TPT and TN stores. :)

Well, I think that is all the rambling I can do for the moment. Once I get the hang of all this blogging, I will start giveaways from my TPT store. So, check back often or better yet, follow my blog. Start following now so you can say that you started following me at the very beginning of my journey. LOL!

Have a wonderful evening!
